WordPress Development Course and stuff

I will be running a WordPress Development course of P2PU, starting from the 26th of January 2010. For more information visit the course page.

As a sign-up task for this course I thought that it would be fun for people to modify the Hello Dolly plugin with their favorite quotes. One of the plugins that resulted from this exercise is one with quotes from Da Vinci, which I find to be brilliant.

Thanks to all of you that signed up for this course, I was really suprissed to see so many people interested and now I’m really looking forward to it and I intend to do my best. Thanks!

Using JQuery and QTip to Make an Image Map with Tooltips

I’m trying to meet everyone at the office and thought about marking down in an office plan the people already met, what they do, etc. This turned out to be very easy to do with JQuery and QTip. Here’s how:

First of take the image you want to use and head down to this site to produce the image map automatically (that’s one handy tool I tell you):

After that you can use the ‘alt’ attribute to put the tooltip text. The end result looks like this, some of the spaces are still empty so you’ll have to find the ones that aren’t :)

Enjoy!

Productivity Tools

A software product is somewhat like an iceberg

Underneath the water there is the idea, the design, the programming, the testing, etc. but that’s only the invisible part. On the surface you have marketing, branding, distribution and ultimately sales. Without all of them a product isn’t really finished is it?

WordPress Users Unite

This upcoming weekend there is going to be the first meeting by the Portuguese WordPress community. It’s going to be an informal event with some cool talks already lined up. If you’re a curious user or developer that love or work with WordPress you should pop by, it’s mainly a socializing event and you need it after that ruff week of work. More information about it here..

After the event there’s a plan to go to the Adegga Wine Market which will be held in Teatro Aberto. Sounds good to me :)
