Driving back to Germany

By the end of the week me and Ana will be driving back to Germany. According to Google, that’s 2,527 km – about 23 hours 6 mins.

We’re planning on doing it in 3 days. First day ending in Donostia-San Sebastian and second day in Paris, France.
  1. First day: (Route) 1,051 km – about 10 hours 24 mins
  2. Second day: (Route) 822 km – about 7 hours 37 mins
  3. Third day: (Route) 558 km – about 5 hours 3 mins
It’s funny how the weather goes along this route:
  • Portugal (Portimão): 16º
  • Spain (San Sebastian): 12º
  • France (Paris): 0 degrees
  • German border (Saarbrucken): -4º
  • Germany (Darmstadt): -6º
16 < 12 < 0 < -4 < -6, crazy!
I’ll be posting updates here or via Twitter. Wish us good luck!

German Class

This week was the last one of the German course I’ve started attending in September this year. I think it was very productive and useful. Although every one around here seems to be very comfortable with English, I’ve learned many things that I already feel are improving my life quality here in Germany. As it was the last class a colleague decided to take a photo of us all with our lovely teacher (striped shirt) or “Lehrerin” in German. And now she has e-mailed it to me. Isn’t that nice?

Another One Bites The Dust

The project I’ve been working on is called CoMCS, which stands for Combined Maintenance of Mission Control Systems, and it is basically the software used for controlling on the ground the spacecraft used by the Rosetta, Mars Express and Venus Express missions.

My team has just finish the latest delivery of our software, which means we’ve done all the code, testing, documentation, etc. That means we’ve implemented and tested successfully 55 software changes/fixes. I was surprised and happy to see that none of my changes had problems during the testing. I would say this is a clear result of doing peer-reviews before the commits and of really understanding and testing the changes before making them.

The software is now installed on a staging area where it will be further tested until it goes into the operational live system. Anyway it’s good to have this behind our backs and just in time for my holiday that starts next week. :-)
